The Department of Chemistry is one of the 10 largest in the nation in number of BS and BA degrees awarded. Known for excellence in instruction and undergraduate research opportunities, the Department also attracts a large number of transfers from other departments in the university.
Students at all levels are able to play a role in discovery on the Department's research teams. These teams are exploring micro-electronics, molecular data storage, nanotechnology, materials science and many other developing technologies.
We also successfully work with various companies in Research Triangle Park and surrounding area to create and provide opportunities for students to obtain internships and other valuable work experiences.
During the past six years, the Department of Chemistry at NC State has grown its research-active faculty by more than 50 percent, which has created many exciting and innovative research programs and opportunities for our undergraduate and graduate students.
Our research-active faculty includes two chaired positions, the Glaxo Distinguished University Professor of Chemistry and the Howard J. Schaeffer Distinguished University Professor of Chemistry.
