As described in the College's vision, our students and faculty are expanding the frontiers of human knowledge every day. This work is exciting, and important. Much of today's research is directly aimed at improving the human condition through medical advances, environmental stewardship, disaster mitigation, financial forecasting and a diversity of other areas. The economy also is impacted through creation of new or improved technologies leading to better efficiencies that save money and resources - creating new kinds of jobs, products and services.
It is essential that our society has enough professionals trained in the core sciences to continue pushing these frontiers forward, and to continue leading the world in discovery.
The power of private support
While the citizens of North Carolina have built an excellent university, it is up to private donors to determine our future. Private support of scholarships, fellowships and other programs ensures that deserving young people can achieve their dreams of a college education. And that faculty have the necessary funding to continue important research. And that outreach programs like The Science House continue to inspire K-12 students and teachers.
Increasing private support for students, faculty, research and outreach programs is critical to the College's ability to achieve its vision. Private funding provides an added measure of excellence, creating the growth that moves the entire university forward.
No gift is too small
Every gift, no matter the size, is appreciated by our faculty and students. We have a long list of existing funds to which you can contribute. We can identify which funds support areas of interest to you. And of course, we are available to discuss with you how to establish your own scholarship fund, support a specific faculty member's research, or even designate a portion of your estate to benefit a specific need within the College.
