When preparing you nomination please keep the following things in mind:

  • All permanent full-time SPA employees are eligible to receive this award. All permanent full-time EPA administrative and professional employees are eligible with the following exceptions: professionals with an academic rank, postdoctoral personnel, and visiting personnel are excluded.
  • Written nominations can be no longer than one page front and back. If supporting letters are used, they must be incorporated into the one page nomination. Longer nominations will not be accepted by Human Resources and therefore will not be accepted by this committee.
  • Any awards committee member who is nominated may withdraw from the committee or decline the nomination.
  • A former award recipient may not be nominated again for three years if they remain in the same position they were in when they received the award.
  • Department Head signature is required on all nomination forms.
  • Only one nomination will be accepted for an employee, but nominator collaboration is encouraged and often strengthens the nomination.
  • The committee will evaluate each nominee on these five criteria: outstanding service in the workplace, innovations in the workplace, improving human relations in the workplace, public service, contributions to safety and heroism.
  • Winners will be chosen based on the strength of the written nominations. There are usually many very strong nominations, so the committee is looking for a nomination that stands out above the rest. With this is mind, you may find it helpful in preparing your nomination to discuss it with the individual you are nominating. You may learn more about the activities of this individual that would strengthen your nomination.
  • Nominees will get a copy of the nomination after the awards ceremony.
