Trustees see PAMS in 3-D
The College recently hosted an NC State Board of Trustees meeting in the new Marye Anne Fox Undergraduate Science Teaching Laboratory. After hearing a brief overview of the College, the trustees heard presentations by faculty on new instructional methods and technologies in chemistry and physics. Statistics Department receives second VIGRE Grant
For an unprecedented second time, the Department of Statistics has been awarded the National Science Foundation's (NSF) prestigious VIGRE Grant. The $1.59 million grant award was announced this summer at a departmental reception with special guests Congressman David Price and William Rundell of the NSF.
The department is only one of three selected nationwide to receive a second VIGRE Grant, and the only pure statistics department to do so. For more information, visit http://www.ncsu.edu/news/press_releases/04_08/228.htm
Science House hosts Sally Ride Festival
Dr. Sally Ride, America's first woman astronaut, invited hundreds of 5th - 8th grade girls and interested adults to Reach for the Stars at the NC Science Festival at The Science House this fall. Participants heard a keynote presentation by Sally Ride, enjoyed a street fair, attended discovery workshops and more. This was the second year The Science House hosted this popular event, which is presented at various places across the nation each year. The program features workshops by local veterinarians, astronomers, microbiologists and engineers and sessions for parents and teachers on ways to support girls' interests in science and math. Denise Hubbard joins Development Staff
The College recently welcomed Denise Malloy Hubbard as Director of Development in the Office of Development and College Relations. Denise is an NC State graduate and has 17 years' experience in non-profit management, development and volunteer coordination. Her most recent position was as Development Coordinator at Cape Fear Museum in Wilmington, NC. She brings a wealth of skills and enthusiasm to this position.
