Policies for Use of the Beowulf Cluster

There are two types of accounts on the PAMS Beowulf. The first is a The first is a provisional access account also called a guest account. This type of account is what the Account Activation Form will create if it can automatically approve you. Once you have been approved your provisonal account will be upgraded to a normal user account or a normal user account will be created for you. Provisional accounts have 10MB of disk space in their home directory and limited access to the system. Normal user accounts have 5000MB in their home directory and full access to the Beowulf resources. Provisional users are still subject to approval by the administrators of the PAMS Beowulf.

All users will be able to use the space in /share. This is to provide all users a large amount of temporary storage for their data files. It is accessable on every node in the cluster. To control the space in /share, any file that is older than 30 days will be removed. The script that enforces this runs nightly.

If you need more file space please see the entry in the Beowulf FAQ regarding data storage.

No user is allowed to run a computational job without submitting it with the qsub command. No user is allowed to leave running any application or program that can receive connections or data from the outside world.

All users are bound by the Administrative Regulation - Computer Use Policies.
